PDU Connection visualization, 1D barcodes and IP Address Management enhancements in v5.7.6

We are super excited to announce availability of v5.7.6 for power connection visualizations, improved IP Address management and many more enhancements to help with your IT Infrastructure documentation.

PDU Connection visualization

You can now visualize PDU connections from the PDU level or the rack level with new “connections” button. Quickly see what is connected where with respect to power and visualize dual or single connected servers from the rack level. You can zoom-in and zoom-out using the mouse wheel and drag the layout around.

Print 1D barcodes

QR codes tend to get rather large in size and based on user feedback – we have added an option to print 1D barcodes. This will take less physical space on the server or other assets. You can either print the asset # or the object name(Device, Asset or Rack) underneath it. The same QR profile has the new option now – so bulk printing etc. is still available.

IP Address Management made easy – auto assign IPs to correct subnet

Thanks to suggestions by Matt H., we have made adding new IP addresses even simpler. Just pick the IP and we will automatically choose the subnet it belongs to. If a matching subnet doesn’t exist – it will be added to system generated default subnet. You can still choose subnet if you so desire. And choosing a subnet is always recommended if you have overlapping subnets in different VRF groups.

Default VRF groups

Again, based on an idea by Matt H., we have added an option to choose one of the VRF groups as the default VRF group. With default VRF group, subnets and IP will be automatically assigned to this default VRF group – unless otherwise specified.

Automated subnet nesting

This could be categorized as a bug fix as well, but with the introduction of default VRF groups – it also works for subnets added without VRF group. If you add a child subnet in a VRF group (or if a parent subnet exists in a default VRF group), the child subnet is automatically assigned to the correct parent.

Easier navigation with go to bottom hover over

Going to the next page from a list view or going to the save buttons at the bottom of the page can be difficult with long pages. To help with this we have added a go to bottom hover over in this release. Just click that from wherever you are on that page and it will take you to the bottom.

Bulk tags for devices

You can now assign tags in bulk to devices. We are working on adding this to almost all categories.

Merge tags

We were enforcing lower case in tags initially and this was causing some errors if you accident added a new tag with different case with the same name. We have taken that restriction out and added an option to merge tags. Simply select tags you want to merge and it will automatically choose the first created tag and will merge all other objects to that one. You can then rename the tag – if you want to.

Device GET API enhancements with filters

We have added some filter to the device API call now – so you can limit what results you get back. All the filters are documented here: api.device42.com/#devices

Application components GET API call

Application components now gets a GET API call. /api/1.0/appcomps/ to get a list of all application components with a url for detailed data for each. Then /api/1.0/appcomps/<appcomp_id#>/ to get detailed info for that application component.

Drag and drop block tile(s) in room layout view

You can now add block tiles to your room layout view. Choose a name and color and drop it where you want it. Hover over to change name/color or delete. This will help document unusable spaces like support columns etc. This can also be used to mimic objects that take more than one grid to create a closer resembling physical layout.

Bring in all MAC addresses for vmware hosts in auto-discovery

We have enhanced the vmware auto-discovery to bring in all MAC addresses for each host.

Completed checkbox for purchase and purchase line items

Purchase order and each line item gets a new Completed check box, so you can track Purchases that are complete and if you received all the objects.

Better U Size calculation

Based on suggestions by Carlos N., we have changed the way we calculated used U space in a rack. Earlier, we were calculating half-depth devices with half of their regular U size – but that lead to confusion in some cases. From now on, if a U slot has a half-depth device – it is calculated as a used U.

Change History Reporting

Want to know what new IPs were added in last 2 days? What devices were changed in last week? You can now do so by new report section for Change History. Just go to Reports > Reports > Add > Change History, choose the optional actions name (e.g. Addition or Change), optional time frame, what content type and what columns and you are ready to export or schedule the report.

Security Fix: Disable use of certain ciphers for SSL handshake vulnerability

Thanks to Steven M. for bringing this to our attention – we have disabled weak ciphers to address SSL handshake vulnerability.

Bug fixes

  • Adding a device via popup not working correctly since v5.7.5. Fixed.
  • customer contact email length issue fixed – as the character limit increased to 75 from 32.
  • In Internet Explorer Menu drop downs were below text – fixed.
