User Interface

The user experience in Device42 has been updated, across menus, fonts, input fields, audit logs, detailed views and list pages. User experience enhancements include:

Homepage dashboard:

Updated graphs, clear management charts, quick links to Application Group suggestions and standardized fonts.

New data grid view and details pages

Grid views have been visually enhanced to provide enhanced usability and clarity. Action buttons like edit, save and cancel have been standardized across pages, an easy to use “hamburger” menu has been added, filtering usability has been improved, saving records redirects to the view page instead of the list page, and many more usability enhancements.

Details pages have smooth scrolling data with each section easily available in the breakdown on the right hand side to allow faster navigation to the desired section. Pages with only a few sections will not display  a breakdown.

Intelligent Object List:

Filters in the new data grid views are carried forward when items are opened. For example: When I have a call coming up with my vendor, I can easily find all of the vendor’s hardware deployed within my environment that has passed its end of life date.

When an item is opened to the details page, the Object Explorer Panel will show all hardware that reached end of life, allowing for easy navigation to focused items.

Application Dependency Mapping

Application Dependency Mapping is now easier and faster to configure, and has a more natural flow. Application group rules define the starting points for your applications and logic templates define how discovery traverses the network and when to stop, per application. Application groups allow you to visualize and organize the results in a way that makes sense for your business. The logic used to calculate application groups has been significantly enhanced to show the most relevant relationships. On upgrade to 19.05.10, your existing applications will now better model shared infrastructure. These application groups become dynamically updated components of your business services.

Application Groups

Along with an improved look and feel, the user experience around using and viewing your application groups has been significantly enhanced.

  • Your existing Affinity Groups will be converted to Application groups which have improved calculations and logic templates with shared infrastructure

NOTE: Any alerts set up on business apps will stop until an application group is added (deleting is not required).

  • Application group positions can be saved and will be retained for anyone viewing the group
  • Easy export Application Groups image files
  • Improved behavior of ‘Add to Business’ service quick action.
  • You can now store communication metadata which will show IP and port communications in relationship line tooltips

Application Group Calculation Rules

These rules define the starting points for how discovery will either suggest or auto-create application groups for you. Device42 ships with some out of the box suggestions. However, adding new rules is more flexible than ever. Now you can:

  • Define groups based on Service instances, Devices, Resources, or Application Components
  • Select the outcome of findings, auto-create or suggest
  • Starting points could be fixed and known items, or dynamically found via search criteria
  • Preview the potential group members when defining criteria
  • Logic templates can be selected per group
  • Add multiple criteria to ensure only the correct members show in the group
  • Determine if this rule will record and maintain connection meta data

Application Group Settings and Templates

Application group templates allow for previously impossible flexibility in Application groups. Each group can be calculated with the ‘D42 Default’ template, or customized to meet the needs of each application.

  • Select different templates for different groups
  • Change application group calculation with an easy to configure form instead of SQL
  • Control how long back an app group maintains relationships
  • Configure ending points like: # of connections, levels of depth, databases or load balancers
  • Easily exclude specific items from group calculations like: Undiscovered listeners, Local host connections, unmapped clients, IPv6, hidden services and client OS
  • Process and re-process application groups easily one at a time or in bulk
  • Easily duplicate a template to create a new one with similar settings

Application Component Templates

Application component templates can now use regex to find only services matching regular expressions for command argument text.

API
